Anti-Trump activists protest Trump's inauguration

Anti-Trump activists took to the streets of central London on Monday to protest against Trump's presidency and his inauguration.

Protesters say Trump's racist agenda is a global threat and will embolden the far-right in the UK.

Samira Ali from Stand Up To Racism said: "We want to be part of the movement that can stop that, and say that we won't be divided, and we'll stand together against everything that Trump represents."

The UK government was also targeted.

Myriam Kane from the Black Liberation Alliance said: "We are here today to show our government that we are against Trump, against Trump's policies and what Trump represents."

The rally took place at Whitehall, where several speakers addressed the crowds, including activists from Stop The War, Friends of the Earth, Campaign Against Climate Change and Stop Trump Coalition.

From the stage opposite Downing Street, David Rosenberg from the Jewish Socialist Group said: "We've already seen Starmer cosying up to the fascist Meloni in Italy. We have to ensure that our government will not normalise relations with Donald Trump (...) our campaign against Trump and Trumpism starts right here, right now."

Activists also criticised the UK Foreign Secretary for his flip-flopping stance.

"Before the Labour Party was in power, the likes of David Lammy were pretty much against Trump, spoke up against Trump, but now all of a sudden Trump is this amazing guy that they could agree in certain policies," said Kane.

Trump was inaugurated on Monday and will serve as the U.S. President until January 2029. This is his second term as president, after holding office from 2017 to 2021.
